Create a location (building / floor / room)
Locations model the physical structure of an organisation: buildings contain floors, floors contain rooms. Assets, users, and tickets can all be associated with a location, enabling place-based reporting and routing ("all hardware tickets from Building A, Floor 2"). Locations are hierarchical — create the building first, then floors within it, then rooms within floors. Accurate location data is especially important for asset management and for on-site IT support dispatch.
Who can do this: Tenant administrator
Before you start
- Use an account with access to the stated page and permission for the chosen action.
Safeguards
- Create the building before adding floors or rooms — child locations require a parent.
- Deleting a location does not automatically update assets or users assigned to it. Update those associations before deleting.
- Go to Configuration → Tenant Management → Locations.
- Click "Add Location".
- Select the location type: Building, Floor, or Room.
- Enter the location name.
- For floors, select the parent building. For rooms, select the parent floor.
- Optionally add an address for buildings.
- Save. Repeat to build out the full hierarchy.
Expected outcome: The user has reviewed the result of create a location (building / floor / room) in the application.
