Assets importeren vanuit Excel

Bulk import assets from Excel

Assets can be created in bulk by importing an Excel (.xlsx) file. Each row in the file becomes one asset record. The platform provides downloadable templates (one per asset type) that include the correct column headers and formatting requirements. Import validates every row against the asset type's schema before inserting — rows with validation errors are skipped and reported, while valid rows are inserted. This avoids an all-or-nothing failure on large imports. Bulk import is available on every asset type list page via the Excel actions menu (typically an import button or icon). A corresponding bulk update flow exists for updating existing records. Use bulk import when migrating from another CMDB, populating the system after initial setup, or adding a large batch of newly procured hardware.

Who can do this: Tenant administrator, Operator

Before you start

  • Use an account with access to the stated page and permission for the chosen action.

Safeguards

  • Always start by downloading the template for the specific asset type. The column structure differs between asset types (e.g. Laptops vs Servers vs Routers).
  • Rows with validation errors are skipped, not the entire import. Review the error report after importing to catch skipped rows.
  • The import creates new records only. Use the broader Excel Bulk Operations Center update flow when existing records need to be updated by ID.
  • Mandatory fields (typically name and status) must be filled for every row. Blank mandatory fields cause that row to fail validation.
  • Dates must be in ISO 8601 format (YYYY-MM-DD) or the column format specified in the template.
  1. Navigate to the asset type list page (e.g. Resources → Endpoints → Laptops).
  2. Open the Excel actions menu (import/export button or icon in the toolbar).
  3. Click "Download Template" and open the downloaded .xlsx file.
  4. Populate the template: each row is one asset. Do not delete or modify the header rows (rows 1–4).
  5. Save the file and return to the asset type list page.
  6. Open the Excel actions menu and click "Import & Create New".
  7. Select the populated .xlsx file.
  8. The platform validates each row. Valid rows are inserted immediately.
  9. Review the error report for any skipped rows. Correct the data and re-import failed rows if needed.

Expected outcome: The user has reviewed the result of bulk import assets from excel in the application.
