Reset a user password

Sends a WorkOS AuthKit password-reset email to the user's approved sign-in address. The user follows a secure, time-limited provider link and chooses a new password themselves. Administrators can request delivery but never set, view, copy, or communicate another person's password.

Who can do this: Tenant administrator

Before you start

  • Use an account with access to the stated page and permission for the chosen action.

Safeguards

  • Password reset applies only to password identities; SSO or directory-managed users follow their identity provider process.
  • Reset links are time-limited. Send a fresh email rather than forwarding an older link.
  • Repeated administrator requests are subject to a cooldown to prevent accidental email floods.
  • The approved onboarding/sign-in address may differ from the roster primary email.
  1. Go to Configuration → User Management → Users.
  2. Find an onboarded password user.
  3. Choose Reset password from the user row.
  4. Confirm the sign-in address shown in the dialog.
  5. Send the email and ask the user to use the newest WorkOS reset message.

Expected outcome: The user has reviewed the result of reset a user password in the application.
